I thought I was halfway there….

Have you noticed an absence of posts lately?

No, I haven’t forgotten about blog world, but life definitely comes before blogs!!  Life kind of smacked us in the face this past week.

We started the week off with both kids and myself sick - - not fun :(

That was followed by trips to the dentist for fillings -  ouch!! (Why do those drills have to sound so horrible?)

And all that fun was punctuated with Handsome Hubby calling and telling me that his orders had been changed and he will now be gone longer than originally planned.    The bad news is that he is gong to be gone a  lot longer than planned, but the good news is that he is now going to get to come home for R&R  (of course, R&R is after he was originally supposed to come home, but at least we will get to see him for a little bit before he has to go back!)  That is just one of those things that you need some time to process.  So, after a week of processing and working through some emotions, I am feeling like myself again.

This is how I found my sweet baby girl sleeping a few weeks back.  She is sleeping with a picture of her and her daddy.  He truly is her hero!!

The hardest part of course was having to tell the kids.  They have been so strong and they have been such troopers, it made me so sad to have to tell them that the end wasn’t as close as we thought it was.   IMG_5188

So, one of our projects this week was to make a paper countdown chain.  The kids worked hard one morning during school and glued all 85 chain links together.  That is the number of days until Handsome Hubby comes home for R&R.  We will make a new one to represent our final countdown after he goes back.

That’s a lot of chain links!!  The good news, is that it could be worse and right now, we are just focusing on the positives.  He has been able to talk to us a lot, he is still coming home and it still isn’t a year – we could have it way worse!!

I’ve had some people ask for some tutorials on some of my past projects - -so this week, along with some of the projects I have been working on, I am going to do some special request tutorials!!  The first one, that I will post tomorrow, is how to make mini- knife edged pleats.

So sorry about this turn of events for your family, the sickness and the delayed reunion. It's good that you are trying to focus on the positive. God has a plan and it aint't ours!

I am really sorry that he will be gone longer. The photo of your daugther really got to me. Tell your husband my family thanks him. I will be thinking about you. I hope that chain gets short before you know it.

So sorry to hear the news...can't imagine how sad and frustrating that must've been. I have so much respect and admiration for families that serve. I've missed your blogs! And soooo many thanks for doing the knife-edged pleats tutorial - I'm psyched!

I wish I could reach out and give you a big hug! I know how hard it was hearing that news. I remember the emotions well. Ack! I hope you all are feeling better. I think the chain is a great idea. I am a good listener if you need to vent! ((HUGS))

I've been thinking of you and the bad news since we chatted the other day and my heart goes out to you and J. and the kids. I'm just so happy for all of you that he now gets R&R! The anticipation of seeing and spending time with him then will surely help this next bit of time pass quickly.

Your paper chain idea for the kids is a great idea! I wish I had thought to do that for Willem when Blue was gone! Maybe next time?... hopefully there won't be a next time!

Chin up, lovely Lady! So sorry to hear of the change in plans. I am excitedly waiting on my brother to come home from Korea for some R&R. Those waits are tough! But, counting the days down can help - like the paper chain idea!! Good one!

Sorry for the change in plans...it's one thing we military wives learn huh? It's never final until they are on the plane over the ocean! My hubby's 2nd tour (first tour for me) he was gone exactly 1 year. His first tour they were gone 18 months or something crazy like that. It's hard & I just have to tell you that you are doing a wonderful job & I appreciate all the sacrifices all of you are making. Just know that I know exactly how you feel & I hope someday our hubby's don't have to deploy (or deploy so frequently!)

Oh Amy, you have me in tears. I know this has been a hard week for you and I am so sorry. It just stinks. That picture of C broke my heart. Please just know that we are praying for you and jason and your kids. I hope you have an awesome R&R planned and will have some sweet time to reconnect. Thinking about you guys :) ~ M

From one military wife to another, I wanted you to know that I am praying for you and your family. I know how disappointing, frustrating, and just plain sad an extension to deployment can be. Though it's hard, I once heard something that I try to keep in my mind: "Semper Gumby" Always flexible.
God bless you!

We did chains, too! Taking one off each morning was my favorite part of the day! God bless, sister!

I am new to your blog and I am crying while reading this post. My husband (who's home now) was a contractor in Iraq for only 98 days....it was aweful. I have SOOOO much respect for military families and their loved ones over seas! We have 3 children (the youngest who was 8 days old when my husband left) and we struggled so much during that time. We are all so grateful for you and the families like yours. We are praying for you. I love your blog and LOVE your ideas!! Keep it up! What a great way for you to stay busy!
With MUCH respect-
Katie Toombs
